Welcome to my Travel Diary series! Today we are traveling to Mexico to visit Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
Earlier this year, I took a trip to the Yucatán Peninsula to visit the beach, relax, and sightsee. I love Mexico and it brings back so many memories from my childhood that I can’t help but smile when I’m there.
My trip started from Dallas, of course, and we then flew to Cancun. Soon after arriving, we were in our rental car and on our way to Playa Del Carmen where we stayed. Our hotel was breathtaking and I remember driving up to the front entrance and being in awe of how beautiful it was. Pictures do not do it justice!
During our trip to the Riviera Maya area, we took several road trips, which I will share with you as part of this Travel Diary series. One stop I was most excited about was Tulum – an ancient and magical Mayan fortress. Here we walked around the Tulum ruins, a 13th-century Mayan archaeological site surrounded by jungle. The Tulum ruins overlook a beautiful beach with turquoise waters that simply took our breath away. All of the pyramids and structures, while modest in size, were astonishing and historical. My favorite ruins were the Templo Dios del Viento (God of Winds Temple) and the Pyramid El Castillo (The Castle).
Here are a few pictures from my trip and a quick list of our favorite spots.
Playa del Carmen:
> Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen Resort – explore paradise + party by the beach
> Yaxche – experience traditional Mayan flavors
> La Vagabunda – keep it simple with endless Mexican dishes
> La Perla Pixan – indulge in Pixan cuisine + mezcal cocktails + live music
> Tulum Mayan Ruins – do not forget to swim at the Tulum beach after visiting the ruins
