“Prelude” Lights Illuminate Dallas Arts District

Attending city-wide events in downtown Dallas is one of my favorite things to do, especially when they are free. In October, the AT&T Performing Arts Center hosted Prelude: A Preview of Aurora 2017 in the Dallas Arts District. This two-day event illuminated the city with light installations, video, and sound.

I have attended Aurora since it’s inception in 2013 and it is an event I look forward to every two years. Although Prelude was a small glimpse of what will be shown in Aurora 2017, it was still exciting and worth the visit.

This year, Prelude showcased 10 large installations from 11 international artists that captured the magic of Aurora. Some of the installations were interactive and as you can image, the most popular of the night like Antonin Fourneau’s “Waterlight Graffiti,” a water-activated LED screen where you can draw art and write phrases or words. There was even live music in Strauss Square.

Other curators and artists of Prelude included: Alicia Eggert, Shilpa Gupta, Herman Kolgen, Quayola, Safwat Saleem, teamVOID, Tramaine Townsend, and Ujoo + limheeyoung.

Are you excited about Aurora 2017?
